There's no place like home!  Alvernia University welcomes you back for an exciting weekend of nostalgia and new memories.  Reminisce with classmates, professors, staff, students and their families as you take part in the flurry of events planned for Homecoming & Family Weekend 2015.

Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner & Program
 6 p.m., Physical Education Center
$25 per person
Join us as we recognize and honor this distinguished class of inductees for their notable contributions to Crusader Athletics. 2015 Hall of Fame Inductees:
Justin Allegra '05 (Men's Soccer & Men's Tennis), Erin (McIntyre) Cataldi '05 (Women's Basketball), Anthony Recker '05 (Baseball), Sara (Schroyer) Paulson '05 (Volleyball), Tim Yanuskiewicz '87 (Men's Basketball & the 2005 Baseball Team.

Powder Puff Championship

Making its first appearance during Homecoming & Family Weekend, come out to cheer on the ladies as they compete for the Powder Puff Championships!  Don your maroon and gold as you enjoy some great flag football.

Casino Night
 8-10 p.m., Student Center
Who needs to go to the casino when it is right here!  Shuffle up and deal for your chance to win great prizes.  We have your favorites-Roulette, Texas Hold'em, Blackjack & Craps.  Win chances at some great Alvernia gear and other fabulous prizes.

 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Drop off Supplies-Student Center
1-4 p.m., Drop off supplies and stay to help assemble packages-Tent in front of Francis Hall
6:30-7:30 p.m., Drop off supplies at Autumn Blast-Tent in front of Francis Hall
School supplies are mich in need for students in the Dominican Republic.  Every year, Alvernia students and staff travel to Santo Domingo to teach classes to students from the local barrio (neighborhood).  Supplies are needed for the school which is founded and run by the Bernardine Franciscan sisters.  
 
Cross Country Invitational

Alumni are invited to run in this event with the collegiate teams free of charge.

Spiritual Retreat-"A Spiritual Check up for Busy People"

Just like we go to the doctors for regular checkups on our health, we need to take time for a spiritual checkup as well.  Join Sister Christen Shukwit, OSF, a vivacious Bernardine Franciscan Sister and current campus minister at Alvernia, as we invite you to do a spiritual checkup.  
 
Coffee and Conversation with the President & Vice President for University Life

Alumni, Parents, Family Members-Join us for casual conversations with University President, Dr. Tom Flynn and Vice President for University Life and Dean of Students, Dr. Joe Cicala.  Dr. Flynn will share major points and future advancements for Alvernia from his yearly State of the University address.  Dr. Cicala will provide insight on the latest developments taking place within Student Life.  Questions and inquires are welcomed.  

Ghost Stories, Legends, and Lore of the Schuylkill River Valley
 11 a.m.-noon, Bonaventure Room, Franco Library
Hear tales of local legend, ghosts, witchcraft, Hexes and the paranormal from one of the most haunted regions in America from well-known retired radio personality, story teller, author and travel writer and Berks County native, Charles J. Adams, III.

 

Food Truck Feast
 Noon-4 p.m. 
Local food truck vendors will showcase their favorite foods for all to purchase and enjoy!  (Campus dining facility is open from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.)

 

 

Fairytales Upside Down
 Noon.-1 p.m., Bonaventure Room, Franco Library
Highly engaging and interactive, the Yocom Institute's Teen Theater Ensemble brings fairytales to life in a new way!  Dress-up, audience participation and laughter guaranteed.

Zoo on Wheels-Habitats around the World, Philadelphia Zoo
 2-3 p.m., Francis Hall Theatre

Travel around the world and learn about diverse habitats and how wildlife thrive there.  Learn about how our choices at home affect animals all around the world and ways to become a 'Wildlife Warrior'.  

Stay Healthy with Miss Maggie
 3-4 p.m.  Francis Hall Theatre
Join Miss Maggie and her one-of-a-kind-puppet, Spaghetti Head Fred, in this interactive and fun program about the importance of healthy living, exercise, good nutrition and hygiene.  You will have fun tossing a salad, dancing to re-fried beans and singing about toe jam!

If you graduated in a year ending with a zero or five, this is your year!  Come back to campus and enjoy a special reunion, just for you.  Enjoy hors d'oeuvres, wine and beer along with a large serving of "catching up" with fellow alumni.  Then join other alumni, faculty and staff at Autumn Blast.

Autumn Blast
 6:30-9:30 p.m., Tent at Francis Hall
Join alumni, faculty and staff as they greet our newest alumni receiving their degrees at our winter commencement, at our fall version of our well-known "MargaritaVERN."  Music by "Jump the Gun", food, drinks and plenty of time for great conversation.
*This event is for alumni, faculty, staff and students receiving their degree in December 2015.*
Cost is $10 per person until October 12.  $20 at the door.  
Attendees must be at least 21 years of age, and alumni may bring one guest.

 8 p.m.– Campus Commons Living Room
Join Alvernia at its favorite game.  Bring the whole family for a few classic games of bingo with amazing prizes and all of the fun you've come to expect from Alvernia Bingo!

Jonathan Burns, Flexible Comedian
10 p.m., Francis Hall Theatre
Jonathan's unique variety show will have you on the edge of your seat as he contorts his body, does card tricks or does anything else to entertain the crowd!  Jonathan has performed at over 300 colleges across the country (including Alvernia a few times).  Come out to see why we keep bringing him back!
