There's no place like home! Alvernia University welcomes you back for an exciting weekend of nostalgia and new memories. Reminisce with classmates, professors, staff, students and their families as you take part in the flurry of events planned for Homecoming & Family Weekend 2013.
Homecoming 2013 Events
Friday, October 18
Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner & Program
6 p.m., Physical Education Center
The induction into the Alvernia Hall of Fame honors individuals or teams who have performed with distinction or have been instrumental in the overall development and success of Alvernia University athletics.
The Voice at Alvernia!
7 p.m., Crusader Cafe
You might remember Suzanne Choffel’s performance of the Fleetwood Mac classic “Landslide,” which landed her a spot on Blake Shelton’s team in Season 3.
Or perhaps Casey Weston’s version of “Big Black Horse and a Cherry Tree” that led her to the Top 8 with Adam Levine’s team in Season 1.
Even if you missed them both, come hear these rising stars live and see why they’re crowd favorites across the country!
9 p.m., Francis Hall Theater
In the time that it takes you to read these words, Ran’D has already read your mind and likely figured out which card you will pluck from the deck on Friday, October 18th at Alvernia University. With the flick of a wrist, the Philadelphia native has become a global phenomenon by wowing the most diverse and wildly appreciative audiences for more than a decade, including President Barack Obama at his 2009 Inauguration Banquet and Ball.
Saturday, October 19

Pick up your tickets for the All-Campus Lunch
Open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Student Center
Women's Field Hockey vs. Hood
11 a.m., Turf Field
11 a.m.-1 p.m., Student Center Dining Hall
Join faculty, staff, current students and families for lunch. Some of the menu items will be: salad bar, assorted pizza, pasta, carving station, full deli bar, waffles, ice cream sundae station, beverages and much more!
Cost: $8.50 per person (students on meal plan do not need a ticket for lunch.)
Alumni Lunch at the Alumni House
Noon-2 p.m., Alumni House and Tent (329 Saint Bernardine Street)
Join Alumni and guests for a picnic lunch at the Alumni House. If you haven't seen the Alumni House, since its opening last October, feel free to stop by and take a tour.
Lunch is $8.50 per person.
Nursing Resource Center Open House
Stop by the NRC and tour our nursing students "home."
Arts & Crafts
1-4 p.m., Tent at Francis Hall
Bring the entire family and get your air brush tattoos, photo with special Homecoming & Family Weekend frame, air brush bag, balloon art, beading and other fun arts and crafts.
Alvernia University Theatre-"A Short Play"
1:30 p.m., Francis Hall Theatre
Alvernia Theatre presents a short play that kicks off their 10th Anniversary season.
Women's Soccer vs. Lycoming
1:30 p.m., Turf Field
3:00 p.m., Patio of Francis Hall (inclement weather, Francis Hall Atrium)
Kharizma was created three years ago by a group of women from the Reading area who all shared a passion for dance.
They have fused traditional bellydance into their own style.
They have performed at many community events and festivals.
(Appropriate for the entire family.)

Class Reunion Mixers
5:30-7 p.m., Tent at Alumni House (329 Saint Bernardine St.)
The Class of 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003, 2008 will be gathering for a reunion social. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres, wine and beer along with a lot of catching up on your classmates lives. After the mixer, have your class join the Autumn Blast alumni gathering on campus.
Family Movie Night-"Monsters University"
6 p.m., Bernardine Lecture Hall
Bring the whole family for a good old fashioned movie night complete with snacks, popcorn and raffle prizes!
*Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
6:30-9:30 p.m., Tent at Francis Hall
Join alumni, faculty and staff as they greet our newest alumni receiving their degrees at our winter commencement, at our fall version of our well-known "Margaritaville." Music by "Jump the Gun", food, drinks and plenty of time for great conversation.
*This event is for alumni, faculty, staff and students receiving their degree in December 2013.*
RSVP required. (RSVP before October 7th and receive a free Autumn Blast T-shirt.)
Attendees must be at least 21 years of age, and alumni may bring one guest.
Game Show-"Crazy Bob's Let's Make a Deal or No Deal
8 p.m. – Campus Commons Living Room
Howie might not be coming to Alvernia, but we have the next best thing….Crazy Bob!
Crazy Bob brings this unique game show to the Vern complete with his trademark high comedic energy and great prizes!
Multiple people get to play (and win) each game, so bring your friends and family for this one.
10 p.m., Francis Hall Theater
Ronnie has been entertaining crowds at colleges and universities around the country for years (he’s even been to Alvernia multiple times).
Current students, alumni and families alike will love Ronnie’s impeccable comedic timing and friendly demeanor.
