The 2009 campus Turkey Drive has grown significantly this year, courtesy of the recession.
Of course, it’s not just for turkeys... More than 350 families this year are in need of a holiday meal (up from 240 last year). This year’s drive will serve 240 veterans through the Red Cross, 100 families at the Fleetwood Area Food Pantry, 10 families with BCPS, and a few Alvernia community members.
More than just turkeys or hams, the drive also provides meal boxes that including items like juice, veggies, eggs, etc. Come out to help sort it all, do some shopping, or give a little green for a worthy cause. The Alvernia Turkey Drive has been going on for more than 20 years, organized by Professor Polly Mathys, and John Luvisi from the Institutional Advancement office. If you made it out to Novemberfest '09 at the Third & Spruce Cafe, you might have spotted Polly walking around with a plush turkey on her head. All food will be delivered on Tuesday, Nov. 24th.
