UPDATE: A memorial service in Dr. Hay's honor will be held on September 29, 2009 — on Alvernia's campus, in the Sacred Heart Chapel (2:00 p.m.). A reception will follow in the Bernardine Franciscan Conference Center.

With great sadness, Alvernia would like to share the news that Phyllis Hay, a faculty member in the Social Work department at the University for more than 15 years, died on Sunday, June 21, 2009. 

Dr. Hay served on the faculty for more than 15 years, first as an adjunct faculty member, and then full-time, and she was much loved and respected by her students and colleagues. Her commitment to Alvernia went far beyond classroom responsibilities, and she will be remembered for her selfless devotion to the university, her love for higher education, and her joy at being a colleague and member of our community.
 
The wake and funeral for Phyllis Hay will be held at:
                Groff Funeral Home

                Lancaster, PA

Viewing will be held: Friday, June 26 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Groff Funeral Home
                                  Saturday, June 27, from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Groff Funeral Home
 
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Groff Funeral Home
 
A memorial service for Phyllis Hay will be planned on campus for the Alvernia University community in the fall, when classes begin for the new academic year. The family of Phyllis Hay is very grateful for your prayers and kind thoughts at this difficult time, and express gratitude for the kindness shown to Phyllis during her final illness.

In lieu of flowers, contributions should be sent in Phyllis’ memory to Alvernia University, c/o Institutional Advancement.

Dr. Hay-Hay..You will forever be missed as you have taught me to be strong and assertive and for that I will always remember you....I cant see a better "ANGEL" that God has chosen....Love Chantay Wallace & Kayla.................
