More than 385 graduating seniors on Saturday, May 16 from Alvernia University, concluding Alvernia’s 50th anniversary yearlong celebration.
Alvernia’s spring commencement was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2009, in the Sovereign Center’s Reading Eagle Theatre. President of the Council of Independent Colleges, Richard Ekman, PH.D., was this year’s commencement guest speaker. Ekman and Sister M. Pacelli Staskiel, OSF, (Dean Emerita and long-time Professor of English and Communication at Alvernia University) were both awarded Doctoral Degrees of Humane Letters.
In addition, T. Jerome Holleran and Carole Neag were awarded Trustee Emeriti, and Deborah Marie Weitkamp ’09, of Wyomissing, delivered a student address.
