(PRESS RELEASE) – President of the United Way of Berks County, Karen Rightmire was the guest speaker at the first Commencement of Alvernia University on Sunday, December 14. Rightmire and Sister Florence Kruczek, OSF, Ph.D., were both awarded Doctoral Degrees of Humane Letters.
More than 260 undergraduate and graduate degrees were conferred during the commencement ceremony at 1:00 p.m., in the Physical Education Center on Alvernia’s main campus. An on-campus baccalaureate mass and hooding ceremony took place at 10:00 a.m. This winter’s graduates were the first to cross the stage since Alvernia College became Alvernia University this September, during a campus-wide 50th anniversary celebration.
In addition, Alvernia awarded trustee emeritus status to the Honorable Mary Ann Campbell of Wyomissing, who served on the College Board of Trustees, from 1997–2005, and as Chair of the Board from 2004-2005. For the last eight years, Campbell has been a judge for the Berks County Court of Common Pleas.
